Guns of the Cartels

As the Drug War in Mexico has intensified, there have been many "experts" who blame the violence on the availability of firearms in the United States. While it is certain that the violent drug cartels are smuggling guns south of the border, I for one, do not believe that legitimate gun dealers in the United States are the primary source of guns for the cartels.
To back up this claim, I would like to show you a great many of the weapons seized from the Narcotrafficos in the last few months and years. You will see that they come from all over the world. My personal belief is that the incredibly corrupt Mexican Law Enforcement and Army are the main sources of their weaponry. While semi-automatic rifles and pistols are available in the US, grenades, rockets and machine guns certainly are not. Another thing worth mentioning is that organizations that smuggle hundreds of tons of cocaine a year can smuggle guns just as easily.

I always pick up a couple of grenades, an anti-tank rocket or two and a silenced submachine gun at Wal-Mart.

I'm don't know where these grenades were manufactured but I am almost certain they are not an American design.

This gold plated 1911A1 is chambered in .38 Super, a very unpopular cartridge in the US, but popular in Latin America, where many countries have laws against owning a weapon chambered in a "military" cartridge.

AKs and FN PS90s. The FNs are likely from the US though. They are well liked by the Narcos for their ability to pierce soft body armor. They are known as "Matapolicias" (Cop Killers)
Also there is a 40mm grenade launcher and several grenades. Not the type of thing you can legally buy anywhere.

So there you go. Like I said before, there is no doubt that there are many firearms being used by the cartels that came from the US, but blaming the gun laws of the United States for the actions of bloodthirsty people with no morals and a vast, global criminal empire is, in my opinion, asinine.

There has been a lot in the "Firearms Media" about Australia and their efforts to eradicate private ownership of firearms. Many people seem to believe that crime has increased since the ban has been enacted. I just find the idea of all those beautiful old Enfields being crushed and burned so sad. I would be happy to buy them straight from the Australian Government for $180.00 a piece, they could spend the money on gun control efforts. Everyone would be happy. Other than the Australian former gun owners.

A Journalist's Guide to Firearms

Anyone who knows anything about guns and watches or reads the news should get a good laugh out of this.


I believe that the major media companies and outlets have fallen into a trap of their own making, refusing to think for themselves, enforcing political stereotypes to keep people from questioning authority. Since 9/11, the main job of the television media has been to keep us scared enough to be quiet and maintain the status quo. They hide behind false claims of impartiality to make tens of millions of dollars a year selling us shampoo and financial advisers while ignoring their high-minded ideals or prostituting them for Pulitzers, turning them into something that reminds me more of televangelists than the search for the truth to enlighten the masses.
OK, rant ended.

Historical Parallels

Now I try to not be TOO crazy on this here blog, and those of you who know me know that I am not what most would consider to be a crazy, zealous, right winger. That being said, I was most pleased when Obama was forced to keep out of gun rights issues for at least a little while by the roar of a huge, voting, sector of the populace. While Obama might not have the desire or the political capital to drastically alter our Nation's Constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Firearms, others ( I am looking at you, Nancy Pelosi) have stated again and again their desire to restrict, license, ban, and confiscate most types of guns.

I don't often engage in "New American Revolution" type nonsense, I do not favor the flat tax, etc. But I do like to compare past events with what the future might bring. So with no further delay, I bring you the PAST effects of weapon confiscation in America.

Sounds scary, huh? You hear this phrase on the news and from our idiot politicians. But very seldom is it explained to people. Simply put, it means that a private citizen of our nation can sell a legal firearm ( his personal and private property) to another citizen of his state.

That is it.

If I wished to sell a firearm that I own, I could sell it. At a gun show, if I desired.
Radical, Far-Left, pacifists will have you believe that every 2 months, your local civic center turns into the Mogadishu Arms Bazaar and every criminal and terrorist goes there to get ready to attack us all.

Nothing could be further from the truth. I have been to many gun shows. I have rarely seen any private sale guns from the vendors and I have never seen someone buying a gun without the FBI background check, except those whose background checks don't go through fast enough. They get nothing.
(Sorry Smiths and Joneses, that's what you get for having a name doesn't get mispronounced.)
Furthermore, almost all firearms I have ever seen for private sale at a gun show are collector- type guns, many of them for more than $2500. Not likely to be used in a liquor store robbery.

Licensed gun dealers are required to perform background checks on their customers because they are businessmen dealing in bulk. They also have to charge sales tax, if applicable. Private citizens do not have to jump through such hoops on behalf of their government.

And for those who say that people should always have a background check before buying a firearm in a private sale, think about this: Do you have to get your driving record checked to buy a car? Do you even have to have a driver's license? After thinking about that, check the number of deaths in America each year from auto crashes and firearms and then get back to me about how we can best protect our fellow citizens.

One more thing:
" A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."


Seems clear to me.
