M50 Joint Service General Purpose Mask

The Department of Defense has begun to issue the new M50 Joint Service General Purpose Mask. In addition to becoming the standard for all the Service Branches, the masks are meant to be an improvement over the older M40 masks. The M50 features dual filters with a self -sealing valve so filters can be safely and easily changed while in a contaminated area. It has a larger field of view and it is lightweight. It also has improved breathing resistance reduction speech capabilities, which would be really nice. I challenge any of you who haven't done it to put on a gas mask and run around for a bit. Then wear it for another 15 minutes. It is not really very fun. You will be pleased when you take it off. Provided there is no gas, of course.

Protecting troops from NBC threats is obviously extremely important and any improvement is good. But take a look at these pics real quick.

Do you think they could have made it look a little less evil?

If we want to look like this, we should just go all the way.
